Chris is currently a Research Fellow at the University of Exeter, UK where he works in the Global Systems Institute. His main research focus is looking for early warning signals of tipping points in, and the monitoring of resilience of climate systems. Recently, he has considered whether these same signals can be found in other systems. For example, measuring individual countries resilience to the COVID-19 pandemic. More generally he considers himself a data scientist who enjoys playing with large datasets, providing he can somehow make it a part of the work he’s employed to do!

Jesse Rogerson is an Assistant Professor at York University. He teaches astronomy and space sciences courses to students from a variety of faculties throughout the university. He also works to communicate science and engage the broader society with scientific topics, including exoplanets, space junk, humans on the Moon, and more. Through his work in the classroom and in the public sphere, Jesse is working to build a more scientifically engaged society.

Brian Kates is a custom metal fabricator focused on architectural metal projects and motorcycles. After years of experience as a mechanical engineer in nuclear power and biomedical industries, he switched gears and has spent the last 8 years dedicated to TIG welding and metal fabrication. He builds everything from custom railings, to modified and restored vintage motorcycles, and has been featured for his work in some notable online magazines.

Fabiola was born in Canada to immigrant parents from a small country in Latin America, El Salvador. She has always been fascinated by other cultures, languages, and people. Fabiola grew up in Ottawa, and graduated with a B.A. (Honours) in Criminology and Criminal Justice,
with a concentration in Sociology, from Carleton University. Education and growth have always been an important part for her life journey.
In 2012, she decided to take the plunge and try living and working in another country. She decided to go come to China to experience work and travel life as an ESL teacher, but soon discovered that there was something more going on in China. There were many opportunities to explore and create new values for herself. She was lucky to have her high school best friend with her and together started their own organization, Global Friendship. As the Co-founder of Global Friendship, she now works to strengthen the GF community by creating diverse and meaningful events and services.

Dr. Joel Lexchin received his MD from the University of Toronto in 1977. He is a Professor Emeritus in the School of Health Policy and Management at York University in Toronto, Canada where he taught health policy until 2016. In addition, he worked in the emergency department at the University Health Network also in Toronto for over 33 years. He has published two books since 2016: Private Profits vs Public Policy: The Pharmaceutical Industry and the Canadian State (University of Toronto Press, 2016) and Doctors in Denial: Why Big Pharma and the Canadian Medical Profession Are Too Close for Comfort (Lorimer, 2017). He is a member of the Foundation Board of Health Action International. He is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and is among the top 2% of the world’s most highly cited researchers.

Colin is an economist at RBC, having joined the bank in 2019. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Ottawa, and Master of Arts in Economics from the University of British Columbia. His work focusses on analysis and forecasts about Canada’s transition to a net-zero economy, and the investment, skills, technologies and policies needed to accelerate climate action. Prior to joining RBC, Colin worked on mortgage, housing, and economic policy at the Department of Finance Canada. He is a member of the City of Toronto’s Climate Advisory Group.
